Teaching
I started teaching as part of my curriculum at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and have been doing it since then. Over the years I have discovered many reasons for students to practice the violin: some do because it’s part of a family tradition, some do as part of their general development, some do because they can’t remember a time when they didn’t want to play, some do because they love playing together, some do it to learn to express themselves… There are many more reasons, and there are also many more combinations of reasons. Just about the same amount as there are people playing the violin I would say.
Whatever anybody’s reasons for wanting to play the violin are though, they are never more or less legitimate than others’. They do, however, require different ways of teaching, and a different approach to the subject. I fully understand this, and will tailor the lessons to every student individually. This means it is possible to begin from scratch and start working on the basics, as well as focusing on intricate technical details of violin playing to further enhance projection and development of an artistic vision, as well as preparing a cozy Christmas song to be played together with your uncle at the next family dinner after you haven’t touched your instrument for a decade.
Working hard and being committed are cornerstones of my approach. Fun and positivity are the others. This provides an environment where the pupil is able to get the most out of the lessons I provide and can make quick and stable progress.
Coaching
Besides teaching I also do coachings for chamber music ensembles, leading sectional rehearsals for orchestras and leading tutti rehearsals for orchestras. With the approach for all these forms of interactive development my focus lies on conquering technical difficulties as well as improving ensemble and musical awareness, in order to enhance overal artistic enjoyment, proficiency, and fulfillment.
